Meeting with prof. Mike Pratt

Leadership:  Balancing the Many and the One

Please join us for the coming meeting of our Alumni Association with a honorable guest speaker - prof. Mike Pratt who will bring some of the current research on leadership and how it influences the management process within any organization. Prof. Pratt will discuss leadership tension and dilemma in two ways:  as demands for leaders to be "authentic" or true to their own values while also being responsive to stakeholders; and as a respond to trends towards embracing the diverse competency, skills, and expertise of each individual employee, while also maintaining an overall sense of a unified organization.

Our speaker, Prof. Mike Pratt is an O’Connor Family Professor, Phd Director, Management And Organization Department Fellow, Winston Center For Leadership And Ethics at the Department of Management and Organization at Boston College.  In 2008, Pratt was a professor of organizational behavior at the University of Illinois. He currently enjoys a courtesy appointment with the Department of Psychology. He also serves as an associate editor for the Administrative Science Quarterly.

His research is problem-centered and process-oriented, and consequently he tends to engage in cross-level research. His interests include how individuals connect with the work that they do, as well as to the organizations, professions, occupations, and other collectives in which they find themselves.  His work has appeared in various outlets, including the Academy of Management Annual Review, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and in numerous edited books. He also has co-edited a book Artifacts and Organizations: Beyond Mere Symbolism (with A. Rafaeli, 2006, Lawrence Erlbaum Associates). Prof. Pratt was a recipient of the 2007 Best Paper Award for the Academy of Management Review (with Erik Dane).
