Inauguration of the new cohort

On September 29, 2015, the Opening Ceremony for the New 2015/16 Academic Year of the Executive MBA Programs took place at the Senate Hall of the Kazimierzowski Palace at the main University of Warsaw campus located at Krakowskie Przedmieście Street.
The Ceremony started with a short address by Prof. Alojzy Nowak, v-ce Rector of the University of Warsaw, who welcomed all the faculty, students and guests. In his speech Prof. Nowak emphasised the role of the managerial programs’ graduates in shaping business environment. He also mentioned a 200 – years long history of the University of Warsaw and its important role in creating intellectual elites of Poland.
Prof. Jan Turyna, Dean of the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw, complemented on the prof. Nowak’s speech, and presented the University of Warsaw’s, as well as the Faculty of Management’s position in the International and European rankings of the higher education schools and universities.

Dr. Tomasz Ludwicki,  Director of the Executive MBA Program at the University of Warsaw, elaborated on the v-ce Rector address by giving examples of our graduates taking chairs at the supervisory boards of the biggest, listed at the Warsaw Stock Exchange, companies in Poland. He also named a few success stories of  our graduates – among them, their consulting projects being prepared as final, MBA capstone projects, to be then put into practice.
The Ceremony’s guest lecture, titled “The role of emotional intelligence in the process of management” was delivered by dr. Leszek Czarnecki – a business leader, one of the richest Poles according to Forbes Magazine, a controlling shareholder of six, Warsaw Stock Exchange listed companies: Getin Holding, Getin Noble Bank, LC Corp, MW Trade, Open Finance oraz Idea Bank. In the beginning of his lecture, dr. Czarnecki presented three questions that should be posed by any student planning to take up university studies: “Is it worth to study?”, “Does university knowledge ensures success, in particular, in management and business? Dr. Czarnecki briefly discussed a few well known corporations, starting with the icons of today’s business – M. Zuckenberg, S.Jobs, B.Gates, R.Bransona. He also talked over the most important business matters, which must be taken into consideration by each and every manager – risk and uncertainty that are influencing any business model. Answering the core question posed in the beginning of the lecture, dr. Leszek Czarnecki strongly believed in value of education that opens opportunities. In particular, MBA studies ensure a possibility of examining true business cases, setting up a network of professionals and colleagues, open up the chances for new projects and start-ups, as well as enable holistic, managerial thinking.
After lectures,  Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak and dr. Tomasz Ludwicki handled over the University of Warsaw pins to all new students thus officially enrolling the into the group of the Executive MBA@UW students.
Thereafter, on behalf of the Executive MBA Program’s graduates, Tomasz Kacprzak, member of the board of the Alumni Association, delivered a piece of advice do new students on how to learn best from all the resources the Executive MBA Program offers.
On behalf of new Executive MBA students, Jan Pastwa delivered a short address on hopes and expectation he and his colleagues share regarding the Executive MBA Program. He also wished a successful  process of learning that would give a lot of joy and satisfaction to all the EMBA students.
The Ceremony was closed with a farewell address by v-ce Rector, Prof. Alojzy Nowak,  and the Choir of the University of Warsaw performing  „Gaudeamus Igitur”.
